50 pages. Malaysia is home to 84 rubber glove producers and supplied around 50 of the global rubber gloves needs to over 190 countries in 2022. Being one of the world's largest glove producing hubs of a wide variety of gloves for medical and industrial applications, Malaysia's glove consumption per capita of 10 pairs is lower compared to the global average of 13 pairs and even further behind the developed markets of 90 150 pairs. It is then a good opportunity to promote domestic consumption of rubber gloves. MRC has carried out surveys across Malaysia which involved manufacturers and end users. The study focused on sectors with high potential demand for disposable rubber gloves medical, pharmaceutical, medical devices, semiconductor, food beverages and food processing. Medical sector contributes around 55 of the gloves consumption due to the stringent requirements on medical applications. Given such, examination gloves constitute the largest share of disposable gloves at 70 by volume. For the manufacturing sector especially pharmaceutical, regulations and norms in reducing work related accidents have led to a rise in demand for various types of gloves used. To promote the uptake of Malaysian gloves within the domestic market, MRC will continue to conduct and strengthen the awareness programmes with the relevant end user groups In future, MRC may also consider to collaborate with the Malaysian government towards ensuring strict regulatory policies on the use of gloves especially in the non-medical sectors.
