Initially known as the Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council (MREPC), the organisation was rebranded as the Malaysian Rubber Council (MRC) in 2020. Its primary role is to support the export of high-quality, sustainably produced rubber products, identify market opportunities, and improve market access. Malaysia's rubber product exports have become a vital contributor to the national economy, with MRC playing a pivotal role in shaping the sector's growth and performance over the past 20 years. MRC conducted a comprehensive study to analyse the export data of rubber and rubber products in conjunction with MRC's historical activities, while also compiling data from its various divisions over the past 20 years. This study aims to provide an in-depth assessment of MRC's initiatives and their impact on the industry. Between 2001 and 2023, Malaysia's rubber and rubber product exports experienced robust growth, recording a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.1% and an average annual growth of 8.4%, culminating in a total export value of RM27.5 billion in 2023. This growth was driven by high demand for products such as rubber gloves, tyres, footwear, latex threads, condoms and rubber automotive components (RAC). The stable contribution of this industry to Malaysia's total exports highlights its alignment with the nation's overall export growth.
